Could CMOS battery do this?

Go to solution Solved by Stefan369,

Want to confirm that indeed Cmos battery was the culprit. Changed it and now backlight and random laptop turn on's  stopped apeairing

Hello everyone, l have a strange problem regarding my laptop. My laptop is ASUS ROG G751jy and in last few days it started once a day turning on by itself when l plug it in the outlet (laptop doesn't have working battery,it is disconnected) and doesnt show anything on screen and backlight is turned off(previously it was always on) after that you can press any button but nothing changes. Only when you restart it by holding power on button it works normaly but backlit needs to be turned on manually and time is way off(sometimes it shows time the last time l turned it off or time that is off a couple hours).

Otherwise everything else works.

My only clue is the time difference that made me suspect it is a cmos battery given laptops age(MFD:2015).

Dissasembling laptop to get to cmos battery is a lenghty process so l figured it would be better first to ask if someone had similar problems. Thanks for any help!

My laptop specs:

I7-4750HQ

Gtx 980m 4gb

256GB ssd

1TB HDD

16GB DDR3L RAM

you should be able to access the cmos battery as soon as you remove the bottom panel. it is probably connected with a cable.

usually a small screwdriver and some plastic spludges are needed to depending on model.

Sadly l need to dissasemble my laptop fully till l get to the motherboard so l can flip it over and unplug the battery.
