Hello all,

Ultimately I am wanting to provide employees with a free perk of being able to backup BYOD devices in the form of computers and iPhones to company storage.

Looking for advise of platforms to use and whether others have achieved something similar.

As a business we have historically given our employees the ability to keep their photo libraries backed up from their phones using the OneDrive sync tool but I am now looking for solutions to give full device backup as a free perk to our employees. Essentially I am looking to give people the ability to stop paying for iCloud storage and instead do a full device backup to our own secure service. I have the ability to host this on-premise.

My intention would be to host the service as a virtual machine on our server. The server has terabytes of storage capacity which can be allocated to this project.

Backups should be automated and take place over the network.

I’d like employees to be able to continue backups while off-premise. I am happy to configure port forwarding to enable this. We have a 1Gb lease line to support bandwidth needs.

Users should have the ability to interact with their own backup and restore data.

I did look at iMazing for iOS backups but this requires the initial backup to be done via usb cable and doesn’t allow for backup to continue off the LAN.

I’m open to recommendations on PC backup and is an area I haven’t properly explored yet.

Suggestions are welcome.

Get the legal stuff nailed down. Last thing you want is to be caught in a mess when one of them uploads csam or other illegal material to your servers.

I have no doubt there are legal matters to address and I am confident if we proceeded these could be addressed or mitigated. However in addressing these I’d have to understand the system first which is where I am seeking views on whether this would be possible. There is no firm intention to progress with this but it is an option I am exploring.

ideally data would be in encrypted buckets and the service would only be available to current employees.

Our employees are well compensated and while we can save people money on backup / cloud storage subscriptions my motivation is about ensuring people have good 3-2-1-0 backup policies in place.

So legal considerations aside, would anyone know if there is a technical solution to make this idea a feasible consideration.
