XIII Remake Resolution Issue (Linux Gaming)

I have XIII remake on GoG and installed it via Lutris. That is, Lutris created a wine prefix for the game and it got installed there. And it's using wine-ge. Anyways, it's now got this issue where the game is supposed to automatically select the highest available resolution but the games defaults to some lower 16:9 ones, the highest being 1366 x 768. (I'm on a 1440 x 900 monitor). Another odd thing is that this only happens on  plasma. If I switch to gnome (regular, xorg) then the highest res becomes 1440 x 851, which is cool but I don't really want to have to only use gnome to play this one game. Another fix is changing the "wine version" setting. If I switch to winehq or system, then I can change the virtual resolution. But that only works for the menus and loading screens, the game still renders at a lower res (or at least, it looks like it does). This is the only game I've seen this with. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

IIRC the internal resolution is always 720p/1080p. You need 3rd party mod like Gedosato to increase it.

Apparently one of the patches added proper widescreen support so I'm not really sure what the issue is here

My bad, I just realised you're talking about a different game. I was thinking about Final Fantasy XIII.
