Hi, my friend is looking to play Monster Hunter: Wilds when it drops. However, his system is currently rocking a GTX 1070ti and is very much struggling to run the benchmark on the lowest setting. As he's on a budget we we're looking at the RTX 3050 as an upgrade for him. Would this be a suitable choice for an upgrade?

It would not, they are extremely comparable in performance in the majority of games. Name your budget.

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 5950x | 128GB ECC 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

The 3050 is barely an upgrade over the 1070 Ti if any.

Most games run similar or in sliiight favor of the 3050.  It is NOT a worthy upgrade.

New no chance to get any better. Used yes better is available HOWEVER not heaps better but you could rely on dlss.

Also keep in mind fsr does work on gtx 1000 cards

Now whats the rest of the specs? Psu make and model.

I wanna say thanks as you have spared us from spending money for essentially no benefit. We've decided to save up a little more to see if we can snag a 2070S or something similar. Thank you for the assistance 🙂

Again that not a big upgrade at all. A 2070s is basically a gtx 1080. Its like 20% faster tops. So wouldnt get that either.

Issue also is that well 8gb of vram for new games is little. Its just not a good buy.

There seem to be 2080's going for avout 200£ ish which is better not great but will do a good bit better.
