Hey all how's it going it's been a while since I've built anything and I thought nows a better time than any to start. So I'm currently downsizing from my ATX to an MATX case and mobo. I'm upgrading from an i7 11700k and keeping my RTX3080.

so here's the parts list I have.  I'm pretty set on the mobo it has pretty much everything I'll need for a good price. My real concern in the PSU now I have an 850 nzxt in my current build but I don't think I'll be able to transfer it over due to size constraints with my GPU since I have the aorus master edition which is chonky. It will probably hit the power supply. Could anybody recommend a solid sfx power supply for this build and maybe recommend which AMD CPU I should go with in the 9000 series. The prices of no concern and gaming is really all that's done on it.

Thanks!

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX GPU: AMD RX 6800M RAM: 16GB  SSD: 500GB NVME

for a cpu you can do the Ryzen 7 9800x3d though the motherboard will need a am5 socket

Yessir I'm going with a b850 board. I wasn't sure that 9800 x3d was worth the price over the other option which I think is the 9700?

Thanks!

Howdy!  Cool to see you make another build.

The 9800X3D is the best gaming CPU on the market right now and will last you a very long time, it is however very expensive compared to a 9700x for example.

Both are great options, I gamed with a Ryzen 7700x and a RTX 4080 for 2 years and I was extremely impressed with its performance.

I just upgraded to a 9800X3D last week but I didn't feel like I needed the extra performance at all, I just like new hardware.

Its entirely up to you how much you want to spend on a CPU.  The motherboard you have chosen will do well with any CPU from the Ryzen 7000 and 9000 range 🙂

The Corsair SF850L and Corsair SF1000L are both great SFX Power supplies.

They are quite popular in the SFX market.

That depends, for some people 7700(x)/9700x can be plenty fast, for some it's worth paying more for the extra cache the 9800x3D has, or getting the 7800x3D if it's cheaper than 9800x3D.

How big are we talking?

I saw builds with 313mm GPUs in Prime AP201 case, that used ATX sized PSU.

Hey thanks for the recommendations yeah I seen that the price for the 9800 x3d was very steep. I normally go team Intel and go with the top K series i7 which tends to be around 350 bucks. Just wasn't sure how much of an uplift I would get going from the 11th gen to the 9000 series AMD if I were to go with the 9700x

Do you think the 9700x will be a big performance increase over my 11700k? Also the GPU is 12.6 in Long which is like 319 mm. The power supply is 150 mm

With an RTX 3080 you might not see a huge bump in the average framerate ( Should still be some in CPU heavy demanding games of course )  but the 1% and 0.1% lows should be better indeed with a 9700x.

I think it's pretty fast, 5.5Ghz if I remember correctly.

As for the case, the pcpartpicker doesn't have problem pairing some of the longest GPUs with ATX PSUs, and ASUS' official website for Prime AP201 on the tech-specs tab:

Yea I checked their specs on the case and watched some reviews and some people said with thicker longer cards there may be some issues

Thanks!

Why get a new CPU if you aren't upgrading the GPU.  The 3080 is a solid bottleneck, I'd get rid of that boat anchor first.

It's just a fun project build for my son and I to do. Also calling a 3080 boat anchor 😂. It's a fantastic card Plays everything I need and some. The real boat anchor here is the 50 series 😂. On another note I just saw that CPU comparison video the other guy shared and I decided to just stick with this 11th gen and get a decent MATX board on eBay
