Intel have probably known since about 2007. They work years ahead of what they're currently doing

That 15nm? process deal must have thrown them for a loop though. That's kinda why I partially think that they might not even know any more.

They had the biggest problem going from 65 to 45, as it was the first time quantum physics was really defeating them. Took them a while to completely change their FET technology. Compared to that initial leap, what we see today is childs play. Up until the natural limit of physics, of course.
