Amp difference between wall socket and cable

Hi,

I have actually pre ordered a 5090 so that means I’m due for a power supply upgrade. However all power supplies I’ve seen at 1000w or over are over 10 amps which is the standard for Australian households. Most PSU are 15 amp plugs which don’t fit into 10 amp sockets, so what’s the best solution without adding a new circuit and sockets to the house? Is it possible to get a 240v 10amp cable and have it still function the same as that’s 2400w max capacity, or will something be affected? Don’t really want to pay $600+ dollars on top of the psu cost to be able to use it, especially after spending $5k on a gpu. Any info appreciated 👹

i dont see why a 1000W PSU shouldnt work on a 10A 240 volt circuit, but then again.. i'm not well versed on australian electricity standards.

how about.. not buying the GPU from a scalper, getting a contractor out for some power upgrades, and by the time that's done more stock shows up and you can pay the electrician from the money you saved.

???? PSUs sold in Australia will come with a Type I plug that fits in the standard Type I socket.

If the cable has 15A written on the cable it means that the cable is rated for a maximum of 15A. It doesn't mean that it will draw 15A. That's just the max current the cable is rated for. 15A @ 240V is 3600W... Which a 1000W power supply will never draw.

That’s not scalper price that’s literally how much it costs MSRP in Australia? Not everything is USD

A 15 amp plug is different than a 10 amp plug, therefore 15 amp plugs will not go into a 10 amp socket, the grounds are larger. This is why I’m asking. You can fit a 10 amp plug into a 15 amp socket but not vice versa
