Quad Channel Memory

This may be a silly question - but if I wanted to utilize quad channel memory do I need to buy a quad channel kit of memory (i.e 4 dimms) or could I buy 2 packs of dual channel? Would they have identical performance?

2 packs of dual, just make sure it's the same memory.

 

All a quad pack is, is 4 sticks that are the same in a piece of packaging.

As long as you get 2 IDentdical packs of dual chanel youd be good.

If you already have 2 RAM sticks then just get 2 more that are identical to the first ones. But I would get a pack of 4

if you are buying it at once as they are usually slightly cheaper than buying 2xDual sticks and also they are

guarunteed to work together, but if you get a deal on the dual stick kits then maybe go for that

If your motherboard/chipset only supports dual channel then 4 dimms will still run in dual channel and not quad. 

Only socket 2011 supports quad channel.
