The Ryzen 5800x is still a pretty decent gaming CPU.

I wouldn't worry about it with a 4070 Super or a 5070 馃檪

Yes you would get a bit more framerate with a more modern CPU but a 5800X will give more than playable framerate.

The next jump for a CPU upgrade in my opinion would be a Ryzen 7000 or 9000 series of CPU's if you really want to upgrade.

The new AMD GPU's are expected some time in March so if you can wait that long, do it.

The 5070 is releasing some time in February so there won't be that long inbetween the launches.

which amd cpus do you prefer that isnt too costly

A ryzen 7600/x or 7700/x is a good gaming CPU and the 9600x/9700x are sliiiiiiiightly faster but cost more.聽

I have a Ryzen 7700x - RTX 4080 combo and I only game with this machine, I love it so much.

Here are 2 pictures from Hardware Unboxed with an RTX 4090 at both 1080p and 1440p.聽 This is an average of 10 games.

There is a 5800X in this slide too, as you can see the 5800X is low down on the chart but still gives great framerate.聽 A 4070 Super / 5070 or AMD equivalent will be slower than the 4090 so you won't be ''as CPU bottlenecked''.

Hope this helps a little 馃檪

I agree that you should wait, especially if your current rig is serving you just fine. By summer, everything will be announced and probably available for purchase. If you want anything then, it'll be easier to decide.

Here's the real answer:

Get the best GPU you're willing to afford in the 5000 series.聽聽

Then if you feel like you need it afterwards, grab a 9700x or a baller 9800x3d.聽 Or a core ultra 265.聽

Game at 1440p or 4k and enjoy the CPU not mattering as much
