Hey all, I'm looking at getting myself a shield pro so I can use Steamlink or Moonlight for streaming games from my computer to the big TV. Considering the Shield Pro is 6 years out since an update has happened and it doesn't feel like NVidia is going to be doing an update anytime soon. Would you still drop the pretty penny on it, or take a different approach? The top contender for me for a different approach is to save up my money and get a Steamdeck, which I do want, but that's a later on project.

I have a Samsung TV with Tizen OS, so it doesn't have Steamlink capabilities anymore, so I'm trying to figure out the next best solution. For reference, my computer is about 10-12 feet away from the TV and I've got it and the TV hardlined with an extra few ports if I need it for anything.

End of November 2023, I was pissed cause I got my TV in December of that year and I didn't know about it until I went looking for the app

Just another reason to hate Samsung...no twitch either...and and and...

Tried Steamlink with Lost Ark and Mass Effect, the input lag would have killed Linus.

Totally unusable for competetive FPS, but if you are used to less than top notch

performance I found it acceptable in the 2 tested games.

I've become so used to WASDQ at my computer that I probably wouldn't be able to do that on a TV.

The games I'm leaning towards are BG3, Hogwarts Legacy, Far Cry 6, games similar to that.

The other little bonus would be not having to deal with Tizen OS, it doesn't feel all that great to use. Plus less Samsung stuff the better

Samsung displays are decent enough.  I find it easier to read text on the TV at 7 ft distance

than my monitor a couple feet away.  Also more nits on the TV, it does dark better.

You know...BG3 should be playable through steamlink...anything that is not an action game 🙂

Nvidia shield is a serious commitment though, costly as far as streaming boxes go...better love it 😉

I’ve got both an Apple TV and a Shield Pro. Yeah, it hasn’t gotten an update in a long time, but I think that’s partially because as a streaming box, it doesn’t really need one to keep being a really good streaming box. I was pretty impressed with my steam link experiments, and for running a vpn so I can watch American sports, I’ve been pretty happy with it too.
