Hi all,

Just planning to get back into folding in the new year and wondering if the Intel B580 is worth considering for folding?

I appreciate nVidia has a serious leg up in performance due to CUDA, but their price to performance has sucked since Pascal, so I would rather buy Intel or AMD.

I'd say it is, especially at MSRP.

English is not my first language, so please excuse any confusion or misunderstandings on my end, also I like to edit my posts a lot.

It won't fold because ARC still lacks appropriate precision. Missed opportunity again for Intel.

B580 has been discussed some in the main folding thread. Apparently it should work, but we're waiting...I guess on devs to implement needed changes? It's been added to the gpus files on the FAH client, but seems that's not enough. I don't know what else has to happen or how long it will take.

Thanks for the heads up, fingers crossed they can get it crunching!

So to sort of summarise (or summarize if that is your cup of tea) the B580 can crunch at least some of the projects on f@h and gets around 2 to 2.5 million PPD.

Very tempted to get one for crunching but I would be pairing it with a 5500 so I'm going to hold off for the moment until there is clearer idea of the driver overhead (and I can find one in stock at MSRP).

  • 2 months later...

Can somebody with a B580 just try all the BOINC projects with GPU support, and Folding@Home, and report back on which projects have WU’s for the GPU, no matter how bad the performance.

Think that’s a great start, and then we can always talk performance later 🙂

So I know it works for Amicable Numbers, talked to the lead on it and he got it working. Done about 25mill on it already

As far as Folding@home i know it works for 23 and 24 but I've had issues with Arch Linux and it working on core 23 lately. Think it's just an issue on my end though

Thanks for the info.

I think it will work for more projects than people think, cause I tested all projects on my M4 Mac Mini, and 12 BOINC projects worked, half of which weren’t supposed to. Some of them don’t have WU’s at the moment, and many of them run the CPU tasks through Rosetta 2, but still.
