Done a little bit of hackintoshing. Any thing Ivy and Sandy bridge will do fine.

Nvidia cards are bit easier to get working at full res than the AMD counterparts.

Something like a GA-Z77M-D3H would be a good start and should fit in a G3 case.

Would start of with just 4 gig of ram, there is known issues getting systems to boot with over 4 gig.

I'd also start with any Non SSD drive, there are also issues there too last time I checked.

You could do an AMD CPU build, but they are alot trickier to get going that most things Intel.

I have an Phenmon X6,  and I don't know how many hours it took just to get Snow leopard going, and thats the easy one to start on.

iAtkos is a really good distro to get a hold of. It will pretty much boot from the DVD ok.

Might also want to visit places like OSX86.net and Insanelymac, and have a good read throught the forums there. lots of knowledge and install guides to follow.

Any dramas drop me a PM and I should be able to help you out. Should being the operative word there. Good Luck!!

Just found out, its a power mac G4

Hey thats even better. G4 and the fold out side makes its nice and easy. I spent yesterday trying to fit my current steup in a G5 case, oh the pain!!! The theory works really well and with a bit of modding I had a nice setup. After that the whole idea fell in a heap. I started play BF3, and due to the space confinements, my gpu over heated, and it froze, then shut down all together.

Below is a great example of what can be done with a G4. Honestly its the best case to mod this with out of any of the G cases IMHO. The link even details the strip down which may be helpful to you!!
