Hi all,

My mum is complaining about poor WiFi signal in her house.  The house is fairly large with solid walls, a 1960s UK build.  For a few years we have used WiFi repeaters in order to provide coverage.  When speaking on the phone with me (using whatsapp), my mum will often move from room to room which I am sure causes issues as I don't think the phone would re-connect to the next repeater so easily...  The current router and repeater she has was provided by her ISP (Sky), I don't think they are great quality but I am unsure what would be best to replace it with.  My question is whether or not a mesh network would help improve her experience?  I am home just for a week at Christmas and have thought about switching it for her, but I am interested to know what your experience has been with mesh networks, will it help?    Thanks for any advice in advance! 🙂

thanks for the reply!  tbh I am thinking about 200 gbp (255 usd) or lower if possible, so quite low budget.  In the past (10 years or more ago) I used TP link repeaters which were fairly reliable, I see a triple pack available (TP-LINK Deco X1500) for 140 gbp at Currys in UK so I am tempted to go for that; if I order when I travel at least I can take it back if there are no improvements that week.  Just my ideas, I feel like a mesh might be better than what she has now, the only alternative I thought might be powerline but, the wiring is quite old from 80's, perfectly fine but she does not have many plug circuits so I thought wireless mesh might be better; really just phone calls and netflix is what she uses day to day.  So I think those are the two options really, powerline adapters or mesh to replace the repeater.  Please let me know any suggested feedback on those two options or if you´think anything else is better.  Also happy to hear any suggested options for the replacement, even if outside the budget, many thanks!  🙂
