For a standard gaming pc is this a bit overkill?

CPU 7800X3D

GPU 7800xt

Ram Corsair vengeance 64gb ddr5

Memory 1x4tb and 1x2tb m.2

The main reason for the 64gb ram is I just bought a 4k monitor with HDR and I wanna play stalker without it crashing on 4k and 12gb isn't enough same as with the 12gb on the GPU also would you recommend any upgrades from here? Just for if I want to upgrade anymore also only had the pc about 6 months max now but thinking for future upgrades if any needed

The only thing thats overkill here is the 64GB.  32GB DDR5 will be plenty for a long time 🙂

Rest actually looks pretty good 🙂   The 7800X3D is plenty fast to be able to not be a major bottleneck if you want to upgrade the GPU later to a 6080 for example.

Looks fine to me.

Some will say to get the newest chip (9800X3D) but it's also been said the one you have now is good enough to the point getting one of those vs the cost, vs the improvement you'll see from the newer chip isn't worth the expense to upgrade it.
If you don't already have a 7800X3D then looking into getting a 9800X3D is fine but if you already have a 7800X3D, you're OK as is.

The above post says 64GB is overkill..... And based on current standards that's probrably true.

However:
I see it as if you already have it, just run it and don't look back.
Games are becoming more complex over time and the extra RAM can't hurt for games and things to come later because as time passes more resources will be needed to run these things and already having extra RAM capacity onhand is one way to deal with it before you "Have to".

It's simple fact with each iteration of Windows, more and more RAM is required for it's base requirements and 64GB's should be enough to run it for several years to come with ease.

With the 9800X3D already on the market, I think a 7800X3D based gaming rig is upper midrange at best. So no, not overkill.

I can't speak for the Stalker's performance, but for gaming in general 64GB is a bit much.

But I'd say 6TB is overkill, unless you have serious storage needs (photos/videos). Is that the case? On the other hand, I know that in some countries storage can be quite cheap.

64GB RAM won't help at all in gaming, it's overkill but allow you to not worry about it that's all

Rest is pretty good, 9800x3d is a bit faster out if context but at 4k you'll always be GPU limited so it won't change your performance

Even a 7700x will be fine

Its the 2nd fastest gaming CPU on the market...

I dont think you understand / know how many people are still running 3rd gen Ryzen and 9th-11th gen intel CPU's...

Other smarter people have already pointed out their opinions on the 64 GB of ram, but what I will say that unless you like playing games like Let's Game it Out does or you like having a bunch of stuff open in the background 64GB is unnecessary. However given how cheap ram is nowadays, if you have the money for it, I will not judge you. I do understand the feeling of not having to worry about ram running out especially if you get into something like video editing or 3d animation which would use that much ram.

Not to mention we all know Windows is a RAM hog anyway.
We know they (MS) claims it's better about that these days..... Still woudn't hurt to have and run it regardless.

It is overkill if you don’t need such performance. It is also not the best value. GPU bottleneck - CPU will not matter as much at 4K. I believe a comparable GeForce with DLSS3 will work better at 4K. RAM, storage, I wonder if MOBO is too expensive… etc

To put it simply:

CPU is top tier

GPU is high tier

RAM is “run every single app available all the time” tier

storage is a pre-hoarder tier

HOWEVER, if you can easily afford these parts, and you just buying a gaming pc and don’t want to overthink it - it is fine.

So enjoy your rig.

Also, case and cooling are not trivial - Gamer’sNexus YT channel has a lot of coverage. My fanboy “take my money” preferences: Fractal Design and Noctua.

Nice ITX case that is as silent as possible adds to the satisfaction, unless you keep your pc in a separate room.

PS

The nerd part of me still have to say that it is better to cater parts to your needs now… and who knows what are other parts you are choosing.

I hate the suggestions of ‘it is fine, just change/upgrade X in a a year or two” - choose better now so less wasted thoughts/time/money/parts later.

PPS

Overkill/top/mid tier etc grading is not always objective (the curve is in the eyes of the behilder) or universal. Certain games/apps have hardware preferences where what someone would say an unbalanced system gives actually maxes it out without wasting a dime.

For example, (I don’t know it is make believe) Stalker might play better on AMD GPUs, but not benefit from your ****X3D CPU. And if this game is the only one you care about then adjustments should be made.

… feels like an opinion of a diehard CS2 (or whatever) player who thinks 1080p is too many pixels and 600fps is the minimum requirement to get a decent K/D ratio

I understand. The only reason I play games is because I could afford a second-hand 8-year-old Chinese GPU. So yeah, no elitism here.

I just gave my opinion and you are all welcome to disagree. Why do you have to talk about me, and not what I think?

I don't understand how is a normal conversation can suddenly open up to insults and sarcasm. I would say the world is getting worse when people seem so eager for an opportunity to polarise and offend. But I've been on enough tech forums to know that this is the norm.

Are you okay?

I never insulted you and I had no hint of sarcasm.

It is either your Clarkson's grin... or your example of people having 3rd gen Ryzen that was a gut punch... or both... anyway why are you continuing to insult him with this very insulting comment?!

I am insulted by your comment of not taking my comment as insulting and then trying to shame me into thinking you spend big money on your not elite setup...
