System posting whenever it feels like it.

Hey everyone!

Currently i'm having some weird issues with my computer, and i have no idea what to do next.

Some weeks ago, i was having some issues regarding some lag spikes whenever i opened a new program. Tought it would be smart to reinstall windows, but before that i just had to make sure my ssd was good to go. Ran a benchmark test and got a BSOD, after that, my XPG S70 1Tb was beign recognized as a 2.1gb drive. Put the 990 PRO and installed windows again, but now the computer just posts when i turn it on from scratch, if i RESTART it just keeps blinking the power led indicator and never posts.

Searched for a bit and some people says that fast blinking should be no CPU found, but whenever it successfully posts it works just as intended.

I have this config for more than a year, never had any issues.

Things that i've tried already:

  • Removed RAM, GPU and CPU. Made sure everything was clean and plugged back in.
  • Checked all power cables
  • Cleared CMOS

Will try to update BIOS when i'm back home. It's pretty outdated, but in my head it wouldn't be the issue, could be wrong.

My specs are:

  • Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
  • Asus Prime X670-P WiFi (Bios ver. 1811)
  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D (not overclocked)
  • Corsair Vengeance 64GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL40
  • MSI GeForce RTX 4090
  • Samsung 990 PRO 1Tb with Heatsink
  • XPG S70 Blade 2Tb
  • Thermaltake Toughpower PF3 1050W Platinum
  • Cooler Master ML360L V2 ARGB

This does not look good for that SSD. Consider it unusable for the time being.

This means your computer works ok when you turn it on. Yes ? That's a good starting point.

I doubt the blinking led is a CPU absent error. Isn't the seties 7000x3D CPUs the ones that had problems that were fixed with a BIOS update ? I suppose you are on the right way by updating your BIOS.

Keep us informed of what happens after that 🙂

If you have faulty RAM, it could express itself in any number of ways, including those mentioned.

Download memtest and put it on a USB drive with a tool like Ventoy and let the default test run at least 2 times. If you don't get any errors, at least that's something you can safely discount.

Correct, whenever it does boot, it works as intended.

The thing is, why would it start having problems after more than a year of use? Not saying its impossible, its just weird lol

That's something that i haven't tried yet.

When i'm back from work i'll run a memtest and update bios to the latest version.

Because it is called degradation. This is a rather slow process that accumulates errors with time.

This might be key. Could it be that the computer only posts when it's a bit warm? Or cold? Could be you have a loose connection somewhere - reseat RAM, graphics card and CPU. Rebuild the while thing if needed.

Did that aswell as a BIOS update. Still the same issues.

Memtest i would do it right now, but seems like it'll take a long time to complete since i have 64gb of RAM.

I'll run it when i have more free time, don't wanna leave it running without being able to keep an eye on it.

Just updating. Seems that the issue of not posting when restarting went away. Not really sure what i've done to it, just tested the RAM and it came back to life lol.

Now the only issue is the lag spikes in windows that came back, opening programs sometime it'll just freeze everything for a second.
