Hi there people I'm bit confused on what gpu I should go for, I have narrowed my choices down to hd 7950, r9 270x or r9 280, after looking at some benchmarks I have notice the r9 270x is not far off from the hd 7950 and the r9 280 is based on the 7950 so would it be better choice to go with a 270x. I play games at 1080p and I am not a hardcore gamer . Plus I want to upgrade cheap as I want to invest in a Ips panel

The 280 is a better card than the others but is more expensive, you can also overclock the 270 better than the 270x, at a slightly lower price

Why not any nvidia cards? I would go for a 770 with that sort of budget.

The GTX 770 is $350. The R9 280, which is the most expensive card in his list, is $250. Big difference. Plus, the GTX 770 just doesn't look as future-proof anymore. A $350 card with 2 GB of VRAM on a 256-bit bus? Even 3 GB cards are choking on Watch Dogs' insane "ultra" textures.  I fear what newer titles may bring, particularly those developed with the PS4 and Xbox One being the lead platforms (which is the case with Watch Dogs). The developers can go memory crazy given the amount of available VRAM on the new consoles.

I suggest the R9 280, just make sure it's only slightly more expensive than the R9 270X. It's hard to ignore the R9 280X because it has more GCN cores (2048 vs 1792 on the R9 280).

Rig: Intel Core i7-2600 / Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X / 2 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Seagate Hybrid SSHD 2 TB / FSP500-60APN 500W / 3x 20" 1600x900 LED / 51" Samsung F5000 plasma / Acer K330 LED projector
15.6" Clevo W650SJ: Intel Core i7-4810MQ / Geforce GTX 850M / 1 x 8 GB DDR3-1600 / Hitachi 1 TB 7200 rpm
14" Lenovo Y460: Intel Core i5-520M / Mobility Radeon HD 5650 / 2 x 4 GB DDR3-1333 / Hitachi 500 GB 5400 rpm

Just for 270x.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go for ASUS DCII ones, get some else, the DCII is more for NVIDIA cards, than for AMD, they just copied the entire design and put it onto the AMD one.

The reason being is that only 3 out of 5 of those copper heat pipes are making contact with the card, whereas, for NVIDIA, ASUS managed to get all 5 of those heat pipes to touch them.

When stress testing it, it'll shutdown on you after 85 Degrees (Because ASUS DCII can't cool it down).

So yea, get Gigabyte is what I recomend, I have 2 of those, I used to have 2 of ASUS ones for it, but both of those cards weren't able to cool down quick enough hence the shutdown. So Gigabyte, go with it.

Case: Thermaltake Core V71 CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 1700X (overclocked to 4.1Ghz) Cooling: Corsair H110i GT(Push-Pull config) Motherboard: Gigabyte's Aorus AX370 AM4 K7 RAM: G.SKILL 2800Mhz 32GB GPU:  GEFORCE GTX 1080 (SLI) from Gigabyte Storage: Kingston 3K 240GB (main boot drive) Crucial M500 SSD, WD 2TB Green, 100GB HD(As backup) PSU: Sseasonic X Series 850W Gold
