Im a final year comp sci student at university. My current laptop was a basic machine and is now dying.
I need a powerful enough laptop that can run 3d simulations as well as some deep learning.
My budget is £1500 but obviously id like to spend less if i can.
I've never owned a gaming laptop so ive just been using youtube for advice

Right now im torn between a Gigabyte Aorus 16x (2024)
cpu: i7-14650hx
gpu: 4070
ram: 16gb ddr5
battery: 99.2WH
price: £1250.00

and a Legion Pro 5 gen 8
cpu: Ryzen 9 7945HX
gpu: 4070
ram: 32gb ddr5
battery: 80WH
price: £1400

From what ive seen people seem to hate the gigabyte due to the software and love the legion due to it being lenovo
I am open to alternatives if there are suggestions
Thanks

Better, it comes with more ram and you wont need to upgrade yourself (assuming they give the 16gb model in single stick of 16gb, if they give you 8+8 you are pretty much fucked since you need 2*16 to do upgrade)

But it could run hotter because it uses the chiplet design (it doesnt mean the chip uses more power, it's just the heat is stuck in the chip, you need not worry on cooling capacity)

The OEM software are laughable and causes more problems than it solves, just uninstall these and use msiafterburner+throttlestop

I dont really mind upgrading the ram, 16gb is plenty for now and i can upgrade it if needed. I want to like the lenovo but the battery life is a bit of a letdown, and i dont really see a benefit of 240hz on a laptop. I like the gigabyte mostly due to the fact its cheaper and has better battery life. There is a version of the aorus x16 which is the exact same spec but its 13th gen i7 so the ddr5 is slower and its priced at £1100.
I just want a powerful laptop thats not stupid overkill with enough performance for my academic and personal uses that also allows me to play some e-sport titles and some triple-A games since i have to pack my pc when i get home due to lack of space. A laptop that has good cooling that i could use for the next 7 years would be ideal.
I dont mind replacing the battery and replacing the thermal paste
The msiafterburner and throttlestop are good suggestions.
Thanks
