Networking advice

Go to solution Solved by johnt,

I have some questions...

1) Are you testing with wifi or wired connection?

2a) If wifi, what band are you using and how far away are you from the AP? Was it direct sight or were there obstructions between your testing device and the AP?

2b) If wired, have you checked your network settings to see if you are connected at 1 Gb speed?

Hi guys, I have a Unifi Dream Machine setup with a Beacon HD I purchased back in 2020 and we are paying for gigabit speeds with Xfinity but I'm not getting what we are paying for, I'm only getting 100 or so Mbps speeds. What would y'all advise and recommend? I thought about just getting a Unifi Express and adding that in to see if it would help with speed and wireless coverage or doing wired access points. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm testing wireless my desktop has a wifi 6E pcie card in it my desktop is in a dining room temporarily so I'm away from the ap I'm currently connected to the beacon hd which is in the laundry room I'm also on the 5GHz band.

So if you have obstructions, like walls/doors, then you are not going to get full bandwidth on the 5 GHz band. And 2.4 doesn't even go up that high. Also, the Beacon HD is only Wifi 5 compatible, so the latency is going to be an issue. The best thing to do is to connect your device with a wire to test your internet bandwidth. I think it's widely accepted that people should not expect full internet bandwidth over Wifi.
