I'm planning on building a RAIDZ2 NAS with 5 used HDDS (3TB, 7200 RPM, SAS) for 9 TB of usable capacity. Does this configuration sound good?

The raid calculation with HDDs takes very little CPU, so its kinda a non issue.

I'd be tempted to get fewer bigger HDDs to save power, but thats me.

That CPU will likely have way more power than needed for a NAS.

I went with the 3 TB HDDs I found because they're incredibly cheap for their capacity. Also, the reason I was concerned about the CPU was that I heard RAIDZ2 is quite CPU-intensive.

Z2 uses almost nothing CPU wise with the slow(compared to SSDs).

If you want cheaper look at a used syste, you can go back a good amount of generations CPU wise with almost no impact here.

Just make sure if your using those cheap drives you take into account the higher power usage and likely higher failure rate into the price calculation.
