Wireless or wired connection?

Hello, Currently I am with Virgin Media a wifi provider in the Uk we are paying for 1GB Down and 500 Up. Current speed tests indicate I am getting 250 down and 120 up to my PC with other devices connected to the Hub. Hub Test has revealed that the hub is running at the speeds it should be, I am looking to increase the bandwidth to my PC but am wondering how, I am comfortable with running an ethernet connection to my PC. 

 

My Pc is currently located on the second floor of my home and is connected wirelessly to my Wi-Fi router, current MB is a Asus PRIME B550M-A (WI-FI) Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard. 

 

Appreciate any suggestions.

wired wifi?
wifi means wireless. if you wire it, its not wifi.

because I get frustrated about this because of the implications:
Virgin media is an ISP, not your wifi provider, their job ends at your modem. the way you set up and control your LAN is NOT their job, they just offer additional services to do some of it for you, like a router that they control (as well as get you on that sweet router rental money). Ideally you should have your own router, its cheaper most of the time anyways then renting one.

To get the speeds you were promised, yes you need to have your LAN set up for it.  So yes, upgrading your router to wifi 7 and slotting in a higher end wifi card into one of your pcie slots for wifi 7. (or 6e)

The ideal is conduit to your PC of cat 5/6/6a which will get you the Gigabit (6a is the best, there are higher rated ones, but they have different plug standards). If you cant do that, then mocha is a choice, if you dont have coax going to your room, powerline also exists, but you need to make sure your router and your room are on the SAME phase.

Cat 6. Already with plugs on each end to make it easy.

If it's gonna run on the outside of the house, run it in some sealed basic plastic piping.

First of all, are you sure that is indeed is your WiFi that is slowing you down? Have you ever down a speed test while being really close to the router?

 

Cat 6 is what you should go for for 1 Gbps+ bandwidth.

I mean, the board only has  Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200, you are never going to get 1 Gb on that without being in the same room as the router.
please note, I say only, but its a really good chip.

Stationary devices should get hardwired Ethernet whenever possible.

There is a generation today that refers to internet access regardless of the connection medium as "wifi". Its unfortunate.
