You could try something like this or go buy something from an office surplus store. This is an extreme, though, since it's going to be only be capable of using the internet and light applications.

Edit: Hmm, you could get like 6 of these and have a basic PC building class or something.

| CPU: An abacus | Motherboard: Tin foil | RAM: 2 Popsicle sticks | GPU: Virtual Boy | Case: Cardboard box | Storage: Cardboard | PSU: 3... Er... Make that 2 hamsters | Display(s): Broken glass | Cooling: Brawndo | Keyboard: More cardboard | Mouse: Jerry | Sound: 2 Cans of SpaghettiO's |

Doesn't need any peripherals, and why and i3 over something like an apu, 6300 or a new Pentium? I don't have preferences I just wanna know why you chose an the i3

So something small and cheap, like an APU?

if you think an apu would be well suited for this

That might be a bit low spec

You may want to edit the OP to reflect the fact that peripherals are not needed.

For general computing, browsing and the like an i3 offers better performance.

I would take the i3-4330 because of the HD4600.

why not an apu if it's got better graphics?

Is an i3's 2cores that much better then a apu's 4?

i3 is two hyperthreaded cores. To applications it looks like a 4 core cpu. But one must be careful when analyzing relative cpu performance, especially across architectures. The better cores of an i3 mean that single and lightly threaded applications tend to perform better.

While APU have higher performance graphics, i3 have substantially better processing. Unless one intends to run graphically sophisticated games an i3 will outperform an APU in the same price range.
