Cpu randomly spiking

My temps keep spiking to 100c while launching games such as COD, then immediately drop, is that normal or is that an issue i should be worried about?

What's your cooler? Operating temps are fine at 100c if it's only for a minute or less. Opening a game can also be stressful on cpus.

My cooler is just a bequiet dark rock slim air cooler.

Your air cooler is within the 12900kf's tdp. It should be fine if it's only with the game opening. It doesn't hurt to repaste every so often or try too clean out your at coolers heatsink though.

its normal,  its also the opposite of random when it only happens in certain situations.
