So i am picking up a i5-4670k at the local micro center (PRICE DROP!!!) and was wondering what the advantage was to picking up a z97 mobo besides it looking badass! Is there really any advanteges over the old z87?

Ability to upgrade to broadwell later is the only interesting one...

  • M2 / sata express.
  • Higher freq memory
  • Upcoming Broadwell cpu's (haswell refresh)
  • better electrical componentry (like the audio, cleaner regulation power)

Not much really, most of the features are niche and not very popular yet.

Z97 will be compatible with the new refresh & older haswell cpu's.

None in particular but i can get the MSI z97 for 159 with 30 off cuz of micro center bundle. I will upgrad my CPU in the future but i wanted to know if it was better to get  future proof mobo now or later.
