This is the first time I've ever applied my own thermal compound and the first time I've ever used a non-stock cpu cooler, I'm a little unsure about some of the temps I've been getting and wanted some input.

The Specs:

- NZXT H440 case with stock fans

- 4770K (not overclocked at the moment)

- Corsair H100i (exhausting out top of case with fans pushing at about 2/3 of max rpm.)

- Artic Silver 5 thermal compound

The cpu temps on idle are settling around 38-42C. If I run the Intel Burn Test it sits around 65C and then jumps up to the high 90's for a moment and drops back down to 65ish. The highest I saw it hit was 97 at which point I stopped the test, worrying I might cause some damage. When I do my own "real-word test" it looks better only hittng a max of 63 degrees while I played Wolfenstein, transfered a 45GB file to my USB 3.0 backup, had some Firefox tabs open and a few different programs for temperature logging. I might just be paranoid right now but I'd like a second opinion. In my real-word test I threw more at it than I usually would and the temps seemed fine but the Burn Test results seemed like a failure and has me questioning myself. I've reseated the H100i and the results stayed the same.

its not toooo bad, BUT that does seem a little high for an H100 especially with no OC

it does sound like its not mounted properly

How much TP are you using? Make sure you put a dot about the size of a pea and give the cooler a little wiggle when seating it. Your idle temps are alright with stock cooler and 60ish is alright with a load.

remount the cooler and reapply the thermal compund..

i'm not familiar of this compound, does it have a curing time like IC Diamond?

or does it require you to run the pc, until stable temps are acquired..

Arctic Silver 5 has a 200 hr cure time. Temps look good to me, though.

i think he is not using a stock cooler, he is worried because he is using an after market one.. Corsair H100i

giving him high temps than expected..

i see, 200hrs cure time.. maybe it does need to let the thermal compound to cure before achieving the expected temps?

Hmm didn't see the h100i part. That's pretty disturbing temps.

Make sure the heatsink is seated properly.. Check the back plate to be flush, tighten the screws in a kitty corner spot to make sure it's an even connection. Try putting the fans in a push on the bot of the radiator to get hot air moving away faster.
