New PC

Budget (including currency): 1700 (USD)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I play mostly FPS games but I do play Triple AAA games from time to time. But I basically want to run any game at 100+ fps

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I plan to buy within a week and I also play at 1440p I have everything else so peripherals won't be added to the budget.

265k + 7900xt + 32gb 6400c32

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZYL9qR

7950x3d + 7900xt + 32gb 6000c32

microcenter 7950x3d bundle

just so happened to have two lists laying around that fits this thread if i swap the gpu to a 7900xt

went abit overkill with the cooler and psu but atleast those wont be a concern upon cpu/gpu upgrade

you can cut an extra 200$ ish if you buy a used 6950xt (400-450$) and not lose much performance

why 7950x3D? isn't that enthusiast CPU?

100$ extra over 7800x3d

considering the better board and the 8 extra cores simply doesnt make sense to go 7800x3d esp considering you can just manually disable the cache ccd and itll still clock higher than a 7800x3d

What about some of the less than 16 core CPUs, perhaps even the 9000 series, those are cheaper too some of them don't lose much performance either. Especially considering the resolution is 1440p

7950x3d bundle

7800x3d bundle

yeah it really makes no sense to get the 7800x3d bundle due to the minor cost difference yet major diff in both cpu cores and the board

now that you mention it though the 7600x3d bundle isnt that bad though it has 2 less cache cores so ofc 7950x3d bundle is still better value but for lower budgets which this thread isnt itd actually make sense, and id just ignore the 9700x since its the same price as the 7600x3d bundle =p

Of course, if Microcenter is an option, what if Microcenter isn't an option?

intel

cause the 9700x is not looking too good even with an overclock unless you emulate ps3 or some other avx512 workload, and 1851 will still last a few years so it isnt a dead end platform either

1440p though, you don't need 7800x3D or no deal performance...

you can still get good GPU and crank up settings in fps games to have better visuals without tanking fps
