Recently I were cleaning my Computer. Then I pulled out the CPU fan of Ryzen 5 3500x so I can change it's Thermal Paste.

I also pulled out processor on the pin on the side off that golden Arrow I saw some black and greenish spot. It's not look like burn mark to me because CPU working fine yes recently my other Corsair CV-550 PSU stopped working without any spark, blast or any smell. What happened to it I don't know? Help me please.

Not sure how dangerous/safe this is, but to me it actually does look like a burn mark, because if you look it up online, the pictures look fairly similar.

Could it be bad CPU/MB? Maybe.

Could it be the PSU's fault? Maybe.

I can't promise anything, I can tell you only that Corsair VS550 isn't that good of a PSU, it's not in the "exploding" territory on the Tier-list, but it isn't far away either, it's quite below the average on the spectrum of quality...

I also can't guarantee whether the CPU will work, my limitly knowledged advice would be getting better PSU, especially quality wise, if you can.

If it still works, I don't think it's something you should worry about - trying to clean it if it ISN'T burn marks is more danger than it's worth, as you could easily break a pin off which may or may not make the CPU or other components stop working (I.E. if you break a pin off that's part of the memory controllers subsystems, your CPU will no longer be able to talk to the RAM properly).

Is there any indication of burns/marks or anything of the sort in the socket area that matches that corner?

Overall I would say if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it, if the CPU still works, repaste it & get'er running again.

If it dies later, it dies later, we don't worry about such things or we'd never sleep at night.

Primary Rig:

CPU: AMD 7800X3D @ Stock PBO - Mobo: Gigabyte X670E AORUS Master

2 x 48GB G.Skill Trident Z Royal 6400MHz CL32 1.35V @ 6200MHz CL28-37-32-30 1.5V (still tuning)

CPU Cooler: EK AIO that will be being replaced when I get the chance - PSU: eVGA P2 1200W

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC @ either 2595MHz @ 900mV or 2970MHz @ 1070mV

Case: Thermaltake View 91 - SSDs/HDDs: 1 Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, 2 990 Pro 2TB M.2s, 1 990 Pro 4TB M.2, 1 TeamGroup Cardea Z440 2TB M.2, 1 Seagate EXO X10 10TB HDD

I'd still change the PSU to something more modern/higher quality, so that it's not some sort of problem with it.

It's not even about power delivery and the level, but if a problem ever arises, a more higher quality PSU will act on surges, shorts and other problems way quicker. Preventing damage entirely, or letting less damage come through during such problem.

I figured since the part where the CPU is seemingly burnt, has pins with high power voltage/wattage, more specifically for example SOC pins are some of the ones that look burnt:

@KaranSmith if you need help with finding high-quality PSU that doesn't make your wallet cry, I can help with that

Green would be oxidation, which isn't normal for the pins. How old is it? Is there corresponding damage on the mobo, socket or cooler plate? What kind of thermal paste did you use? Did any of it ooze out from between the IHS and cold plate at that corner? Was anything dropped, dripped or spilled onto the socket?

In line with the previous suggestion to test it, please download and run Prime 95 with small FFTs for an hour. If nothing malfunctions, it is probably good. However, if you also use your CPU's iGPU for your monitor, run Furmark for an hour and see if there are any visual issues. As long as the tests reveal no problems, it's still OK.

Agree completely, I would definitely get a better PSU.

3500x doesn't have iGPU
