Trying to decide which phone I want for a spare while I get my main phone fixed.

Trying to decide between a used S22 or Redmi Note 12 Pro+

Then S22 has better everything but battery, OS, and no headphone jack. It would also would have problems with my car phone mount. The camera is also awesome on the S22.

The Redmi has a OS I like with the default launcher and keyboard, and has a headphone jack but it doesn't support all the phone bands from my carrier. It also has a slower SOC and worse camera.

My budget for a phone would be ~$200 but I'm willing to stretch it a bit if the phone is worth the extra bit.

What do you guys suggest, I'm open to other options too that aren't from Apple or have a curved screen.

used s22 will be infinitely better than some trash midranger in every single way, doesnt even matter if you dont game as they usually have better screens audio and cameras

only decent midrangers id actually take seriously and not be a throw away within a couple of years would be flagship killers like the poco f5/f6 though those are more focused on gamers due to the socs they usually come with

whats your main phone?

and what will you use the phone for?

my suggestion that ive personally been eyeing alot is those sony xperia phones as the first gens are quite abit under 100$ while still being flagships and persumably a very good camera cause it is a sony phone after all, not too interested in competitive minecraft anymore so the 60hz display and 855 arent gonna be too much of an issu

theres also the mark ii iii and up but those are quite abit more expensive and flagship specs stay flagship for a long while mainly stuff like the camera display and audio as ive seen with my friends pixel 2 he bought for 60$ as that things camera puts my vivo y51 to shame, soc is probably the only thing that can drop out of flagship status if you game alot but an 855 will still put most sub 300$ midranger phones to shame

ofc doesnt mean i dont want to get a mark ii/iii myself just means i dont really need it =p

About 2-3 weeks, I want a decent camera and battery life due to going on a trip. I might be without a charger all day and want to have good photos. The CPU speed isn't as much of a concern. I use wired headphones a ton and don't like most BT headphones so the headphone jack is kinda a big deal to me.

My main phone is a Zenfone 10 and I have no idea how long Asus is going to have it for. I mainly do mid level demanding games like WOT Blitz and Pokemon Unite and the other uses are a wackton of YouTube with a bit of photography.  The choice of the Xaiomi was due to the headphone jack, they both have 120hz OLED screens.

photography and a shitty midranger is completely out of the question with their god awful cameras

1st gen xperia doesnt have a 3.5 jack alongside tiny battries but mark ii (2nd gen) do have 3.5 jacks and bigger batteries (4000mah) and mark iii is just bigger batteries (4500mah) alongside the usual minor soc and camera upgrades

for something comparable to your daily that wont make your life miserable while using it due to being slow having a shit camera etc. then get atleast a mark ii xperia 1/5 but prefferably a mark iii due to the bigger battery and probably slightly better camera

not aware of any other flagships that have a 3.5mm jack cause all the samsungs seem to have gotten rid of it, same for the xiaomi flagships that tend to be good value used, pretty much limited to older flagships or other obscure phobes like the zenfone, xperia, etc. if you want a 3.5 jack and id pick the xperias over anything else due to how cheap the things are for what they offer

The Xaiomi's camera is actually pretty alright according to GSM arena I have noticed the photos of people come out a bit pale though https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_12_pro_plus-review-2547p5.php

yeah have my doubts with those lowend midrangers but i will say the cheap redmi is actually not that bad

ofc itll be worse than an iphone or properly set up sony which is pretty visible with the camera stabilization and presumably in low light but i cant find proper comparisons that are comparing to say an iphone 12 pro or 13 pro for phones both as the control for the comparison

do keep in mind that the sony will perform best if you actually tweak the camera and some reviews arent actually using the pro mode so if it looks worse in some vids then thats the reason

not a photographer so idk what youd have to tweak but hey i guess you can just look online for guides
