fixing a headset input socket

I have a alienware headset from 2020 and recently the microphone connection inside has gone bad but the audio works fine so i want to replace the internal 3.5mm socket. However im unsure if i should be getting a 4 pin or 5 pin (images attached below) as the 5 pin looks identical to the one inside but someone said i should get 4 pin but that has a different shape. does it matter which one i use?

You need to know the footprint (mechanical pin spacing/positioning) of the part you're replacing to know which part will work. You'll need to get to the bottom of the PCB and take some measurements to know if you've found the right part.

Same as AbydosOne said.
You need to open up the headset and observe the orientation, size, etc. before committing to buying any parts.

 

I had to replace the headphone socket on my Bluetooth speakers before and I was pretty confusing trying to figure out which part to buy.

How did you troubleshoot and verify that the socket is bad? Are you certain that it isn't something else wrong?
