Which GPU?

I have a MicroCenter by me. They have 2 6800 XTs for $430 right now. I'll look at those other recommendations as well.

Not bad! They're decent performers. If you can get a 7800 XT or 4070 non-Super for e.g. $450 (or a bit above), then I'd take that instead, as I think they're a safer long-term bet for the reason I gave above.

Budget (including currency): $500

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: COD, Valorant, Baldur's Gate 3, some light video editing

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Currently running a 5700x3d and 32GBs of RAM and a 5700xt.

Looking for recommendations on a GPU. I would prefer to stay around 3-400 but I could be convinced to go up to about $500 if the right deal presented itself. I was leaning towards a 7700XT but have noticed that 6800XTs typically perform better. So is it worth getting the 6800XT even though it's a little older?

1080p, I am planning on getting a new monitor eventually, so 1440p capable would be good.

It depends on prices in your area, but it is likely that a 7900 GRE or 4070 Super is the absolute top of your budget.

Realistically, I'd expect a 4070 non-Super or 7800 XT to be where you're aiming for.

The 7700 XT is not a bad card, but on release it was priced way too close to the 7800 XT to make sense.

The 6800 XT is significantly better than the 7700 XT (it is more like a 6800 non-XT), but they're rarely available anymore. I'd also be aware that AMD is planning to use AI in future versions of FSR and only the 7000 series has AI cores, so it is possible that RDNA 2 will get cut off from driver and feature support at some point.
