Recommendations for upgrade

myszaks

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade a bit my current setup, but I'm not sure if it's worth to upgrade CPU (with mobo if needed) or GPU first. Or maybe I should go completly different way about it? Current setup is starting to struggle.

Budget (including currency): 300-400 euro

Country: Poland

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: indie and AAA games, coding

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

- CPU - Intel i5-10600KF @4500Mhz
- MOBO - MSI MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS

- GPU - MSI GTX 1080 8GB

- Memory - DDR4 16GB 3000MHz

- Monitors: HP25mx, Benq GW2765

- Power supply - EVGA SuperNova G2 80Plus Gold 550W

- 2 monitors (main - HP 25mx, secondary - benq GW2765)

I would suggest 3 changes.

More memory if you can fix it 32gb could be worth the upgrade if you find the current 16gb not enough.

The graphics card depending on the same could be worth a bump i don't know what a newer card would cost in euros.

I would also suggest depending on how long you have had your current computer for a windows refresh/wipe could be of help.

Its hard's to say what could help because different games use system hardware in different ways some games are more CPU bond and some are GPU bond. This could also be where having more memory could help to, you only say 16gb if its 1 stick could be running in single channel not dual.

I'm not too sure what res/framerate you're targeting but a 7700xt/6700xt would probably be a pretty nice upgrade. Although, you might need to upgrade the psu as well. But also, moving up to am5 would also be a pretty decent upgrade. It really just depends on your targets but I think a more aggressive OC with a GPU upgrade would be the first step in your upgrade. And then a move to AM5 after.

Sorry, I have 2x8gb running dual channel.

My main display maxes at 1080p and I don't plan to upgrade in this moment, maybe in the future, but at the moment upgrading the rest of the hardware has bigger priority.

what is it struggling with in particular? graphically intensive games then ofc gpu but if its cpu intensive stuff then cpu upgrade or a higher oc

speaking of which this should be able to run at 5ghz or abit over 5ghz so thatd help abit with cpu performance

might wanna upgrade to 32gb if its struggling with ram heavy stuff or struggling when multitasking, cpu imc is capable of around 4400-4600 if vccsa/io is capped to 1.45v but im not sure how much benifit youll get with higher ram freq

If you want to play more modern titles at 1080p high/max then get a new gpu and up the OC but if you want more consistent framerates with less stutters then probably cpu+mobo+ram upgrade. Increasing RAM wouldn't hurt as well. 16gb is still alright but is slowly becoming bare minimum.

Any recommendations for gpu for around 200euro? OCed to 4.9ghz, but I think I need to repaste the cpu/or change cooling to try and squeze more. RAM is one the way.

6650xt is a great 1080p card but not so much better than the 1080 you own.

If definitely make sure to get a 6700xt at least.
