As the title says, I am looking for any tutorials or learning material for setting up my first NAS.

I am looking to setup a plex server, backup my main PC, and have network storage for some bulk storage items for thinks like emulation.

So I guess the first question, is this possible with a single NAS (if I am even using the right word)? I'm experienced with standard PCs but not so much with servers and NAS setups.

If so could someone point me toward some videos or other material and I should be good from there.

If not then could I possibly get some more info on what I should be looking for or asking for?

Thanks for any info in advance.

Yes, quite easily. Just run something like TrueNAS Scale with a single container for either Plex or Jellyfin. If you want to add GPU encode functionality, then it can get a bit weird depending on what hardware you want to use, but if you just want to do basic CPU encode for it then there's no real need for anything super complicated.

Craft Computing is the place I learned most of the stuff initially. He's got quite a bit of tutorials for Proxmox and TrueNAS for setting up services like what you wanted. There are other places as well, pretty much just google "how to setup ___" for any of the major NAS operating systems (TrueNAS and UnRAID are the big ones) and you'll find countless tutorials on it.

Dang I forgot about GPU encoding, yeah I will have to look into that for the hardware. But thank you for the suggestion, that was the main thing I wasn't understanding if I could do or not because I would mainly see people doing one thing on each machine, but I'm guessing I was just looking at the wrong videos/articles.

I will take a look at his stuff, thank you.
