Every so often my screen will go black when using this card, is this  a sign of the card dying? I've only had it for about 6 months and just recently started playing games on ultra 1080p, but it's happened even when not gaming. I have it plugged into an hdtv and it just goes black on me, I tried waking it up and ctrl alt dlt nothing but a reboot seems to fix it.

First off what are the temps on the card?

Have you overclocked it at all?

Have you tried

-a different cable

-increasing core voltage

-increasing power limit

Yes I've used different cables and I wouldn't know how to do any of that I usually just keep everythinng at stock.

okay so download MSI Afterburner.

http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/vga/MSIAfterburnerSetup300.zip

Install both parts, rivatuner and msi afterburner itself, because you need both to monitor temps.

then open msi afterburner and click on settings.

Under the monitoring tab first click on the checkmark next to "GPU temperature" and then select the checkbox that says "show in on-screen display"

I have some other stuff showing as well, you can choose to show it as well or not.

After that open rivatuner statistics server, make sure it has on screen display toggled on.

Now try to play a game for 10-20 min and see what the temps shown are.

And then report back when you find out the temps.

Would underclocking mean I'd have to change game settings to high instead of ultra?

It truly depends on you.

On what games you're playing, on what fps threshold you're comfortable with, etc.

Personally I would raise the core voltage and the power limit before I would underclock.
