Hello, LTT! I'm looking for help with an upgrade for my pc, I plan on using it for gaming on 1080p 120Hz, mostly on FPS. I want to upgrade to AM5, and (if possible) leave a little bit of room for future gaming on 1440p, but it's ok if it's not doable.

Budget (including currency): $10,00 to $14,000MXN (around $500 to $700 USD, just take into consideration that PC parts are generally more expensive in Mexico).

Country: Mexico

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Resident Evil 7, RE8, Apex Legends, Sea of Thieves, No Man's Sky, Halo Infinite.

Other details:

My current PC consists of these parts:

  • Gigabyte AB-350 Gaming 3
  • Ryzen 3 3100 (with stock cooler)
  • 16GB DDR4 3200
  • 1tb nvme, 1tb HDD
  • ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3060 Twin Edge OC
  • Corsair 4000D Airflow
  • Corsair RM850e PSU

I want to upgrade the motherboard, CPU and RAM; I feel like the CPU is very low tier and it's slowing down the rest of the components. Suggestions on other PC parts is appreciated; I don't need new peripherals or monitors.

Preferred websites for shopping are Amazon, MercadoLibre and NewEgg.

As mentioned above, I want to game on 1080p with medium-high settings, currently using two monitors (one for gaming, one for utility apps).

Thanks for any and all help, and sorry for any mistakes and broken English.

Flash the Bios, replace the CPU with a Ryzen 5700X or, even better, a 5700X3D, and add a better cooler.

The Ryzen 3100 is severely bottlenecking your RTX 3060 which is still an OK card for 1080p. Your runs worse than a 1660 or 1070 because of the CPU, like you have an RTX 3050, not a 3060.

I don't understand the replacing if ram for 32gb.  Does he need it?  We're not automatically at 32gb yet for gaming.

5700x3d and current ram will outperform.   I'd invest that ram money into a GPU or monitor for 1440p

If he is hitting the ram threshold, he can just get another 2x8.

Sorry for forgetting the PSU, it's a Corsair RM850e. I'll update the original post to include it in just a second.

32GB helps everything run smoother. No idea what exact set of RAM the OP has and seeing how you don't want to mix RAM sets and RAM being cheap as dirt atm, safe bet is spend $50 on a set of 2x16GB of DDR4-3200. The 5600 is a noticeable improvement over the OP's current cpu ... hence the reason I posted the benchmarks. It's a solid upgrade that doesn't break the bank.
