My storage devices on my pc are always plugged in, I never unplug.

so why get a external drive? I'd go internal here unless you can't add more drives.

I am thinking to do 4-6 500gb ssd’s

(I would like to have it in time stamps for each drive, say 2022, 2023, 2024, Or whenever my sd card fulls up I upload it and create a folder for that time period.

I am quite sure internal will work as I have many pcie cables.

Why all these small drives, Get one big drive like a single 4TB SSD here, then make folders. Much easier to work with.

As I use a 256gb SD card on my camera, once its full I upload to my 1TB HDD, its the one with the corrupted video files. (Almost full)

So I want to organize the videos I have on the HDD, onto the new SSD’s.

Generally I reccomend formatting a camera drive after each shoot once the files are copied to the computer and backed up. I find this makes it much easier to manage.

What is the best for software for backups?

1 other question do more drives require a bigger power source or ram or something?

I'd look at veeam. They have a free version for desktops/workstations and can backup to rotated external HDDs.

What is smarter?

Thats what the backups are for. Its much easier to work with fewer bigger drives.

I have a PC, I have 3 Main storages
(500gb ssd windows, 1tb ssd, 1tb hdd)

I would like to make a external storage, to hold videos and photos on, that will have backups.

Best for external storage? SSD or HDD

I would also like to buy a enclosure, maybe up to 4-6 ssd/hdd bays. Is this needed? Do I need a “docking station” or “enclosure” to make this work?
( Any suggested ones please link )

Another question I have is I am yet to learn how to do backups, how do they work? if I upload something new will it create a new updated backup I can load? I would most definitely need this to ensure my external storage does not fail and I lose content.

Maybe I need a video on how to create/have updated backups?

SSD or HDD depends on your budget and the size of storage desired

(I'd never fit an HDD in a mobile external storage storage though, way too dangerous or are you talking about NetworkAttachedStorage ?)

maybe up to 4-6 ssd/hdd bays ? When one HDD holds up to 24TB, I wonder why you'd need more (apart

from having a backup or a Raid setup) Same for SSDs, I just bought a 4TB NVMe SSD quite cheap

I believe Acronis does support that kind of storage strategy. But you probably have to buy a licence.

If the storage your using is almost always plugged into yoru PC, why not make it internal?

For most uses the only reason to go HDDs is cost, so get a SSD if price isn't a issue.

Most backup software will do incremental backups so you can easily restore to a previous version if needed, and keep multiple versions of backups.

What does this mean, format the sd card once the files are copied ? what's the relevance here

I bet he didn't understand that he needs to also have one or two backups. So he needs at least two drives
