About two weeks ago, I noticed that when my local version of ollama with webui generates text, there is noise directly correlated with text appearing on screen. This is kind of a very distinct whistle, the best way to describe it is the type of sound used in silly action movies when text like "CIA Headquarters, USA" is generated char-by-char across the screen. This was reported by quite a few people online, actually. Today, I also started noticing that there is a quiet whistle when I move the mouse after the PC wakes up. No mouse-related noise after about 1 minute of use (but always noisy ollama). No problems other than this, ollama itself works fine even with the noise, games run ok, no unusual noises with furmark or a local version of stable diffusion running. This is with RTX 3070 (latest driver from Aug 20, as of right now), 12700KF, Gigabyte Aorus Master Z690, EVGA 1000 G5, Win11. The GPU looks seated as solid as ever, I didn't try to reseat anything.

Any of this reason to worry?

Additional info: I had to move several times within about a year, with my desktop packed inside the original case box (Corsair 4000D) and sitting in my trunk. I never removed the GPU when moving, just inserted foam pieces cut precisely to prevent the GPU from shaking side to side. When inside the trunk, the box was always positioned "horizontally" with the card basically standing on the motherboard. The above started to appear after the last (and I think final) move. But, this place is also much quieter than the previous one, so I can't say for sure it didn't start earlier.

Why don't you ask Ollama? 😄 Coil whine is very normal and correspond to the load induced on the GPU.

I actually did while testing for this noise. It needed a lot of help getting off the 'this is from fans. replace your fans.' crap. 😁

Anyway, I am just really surprised by how selective these noises are, with nothing during games or other GPU-intensive things.
