After I typed exit , i tried enter my valid password but it says incorrect login

You need to type your username, followed by your password. If you typed "exit" first, that's the username it's going with. That user doesn't exist, so your password can't possibly match it, hence it says incorrect login.

If you log in successfully, you'll simply be signed into the console. Type exit or CTRL+D to log out. As others have said use CTRL+ALT+Fx to go back to the UI, typically F6, F7 or F8.

Accidently pressed and hold CTRL+ALT+F4, and it went to virtual console. How do i exit virtual console??

The same way you switched to tty session: CTRL + ALT + F1-8 (1 to 8, not sure which one it is for Mint, just try them all out).

Login asks for username and then your password.
Even if you did login you'd still be in terminal and would need to run your graphical session, a new one while the old one would still be running, waiting for you to switch back to it. Also I'd expect some weirdness to happen if you started two graphical sessions with the same user.

People typicaly switch to tty session (CTRL + ALT + Fsomething) if their graphical session crashes, so they can safely reboot for example... or when doing an update where you do not want your DE running.
