LAN Planing - Ideas?

Hello brains trust, 

 

It's been a while since I've done a LAN,

 

I feel I spend half the day "helping" gamerz update or install games. using steam back-ups and running installs etc. i try and get the game list out for people to download beforehand. I have done stuff like: have copies of hard drives, a NAS with network shares and half-assed PowerShell scripts to copy data.  But there is always something. 

 

Now, I do this out of love and cos games. but the last time it happened I almost lost faith in humanity and thought about moving to a remote town in Canada (I live in remote Australia, so it's the opposite right?)  

 

 

So why the post, well I'm curious about what other people do for LANS?  and any trips to make things run smoothly with the non-tech types! 

 

And if ideas are good I can "Borrow" them! haha

You may need some beefy hardware though (and of course good local networking)

@Kilrah  Yeah i have some old server hardware and the network is fine!   i will check this Lancache server out
