Hi, i build my last PC in 2016 and it's starting to die. I mainly use my pc for playing sometimes big games but most of the time more medium size games.
I'm devops so i use my PC a lot to code, build local K8S (sometimes virtualizing up to 6 nodes)
I have one main monitor 1080p 144hz but plan to upgrade in the future (1440p or 2160p if possible, 144hz). My second monitor is for content and code 1080p 60hz.
I don't need any peripherals.

Plan to buy :

- MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI

- AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

- Corsair Vengeance 2x16 6000Mhz CL30

- NVME 1 To (probably sabrent) for the games

- GPU i don't really know, RX 7800 XT ? or up to a 4070 super/ti?

Keep from my old PC :

- Noctua U12S

- Corsair RM650W

- CM Storm Stryker

- Drives (OS Windows & Linux on an Samsung 860 EVO 500Go)

More info :

So i was playing POE and my pc kinda died (still running but lost a lot of functionality) it's definitely time to upgrade. I like my current case and don't think it'll be a problem to rebuild a PC in it.
I don't care much about the look (maybe in the future i'll want a pretty PC but that's another budget, would be white/pink).
For this upgrade since it's a bit of an emergency i'm okay to spend 1500 to 2000€, my old PC had the following : Asus Z170-A, GTX 970 StrixOC, i7 6700K, Kingston 2x8Go 2400MHZ CAS12 + Corsaire LPX 2x16 2400Mhz CAS14,  Corsair RM650, Noctua NH-U12S.
I'm gonna salvage my old drives, an 860EVO 500Go for the Windows and Linux, 3 other drives for data (SSD, HDD, should move all of that to a NAS but not now) and a new nvme only for games.
As described above i plan to salvage the CPU fan, the PSU and the case. I'll probably have to buy new cables for the PSU (specially for the GPU i suppose).
If needed i'm okay to change all component and start from scrap but that would need me to add probably a bit more to the budget.

The build needs to support my 144hz monitor, i'm very sensitive to motion sickness and there is a lot of games i cannot play under 120-140fps

With the recommendation i found and keeping some of my old component i'm falling on a cost of 1200-1500€ depending on the GPU. And like i said i'm okay to go to a base budget of 2000€(+) if it can give me a nice boost overall.

My big blind spot is the GPU, i'm not very aware of what are the best options for my budget.

Any advice is welcome 🙂

Solid choice, but with Ryzen 9000 series on the corner, maybe you can give a wait for a week or two till the YouTube review for performance comparison?
I would say you can grab 7600X now if there is some great discount

Solid choice for 1440p 144Hz for your gaming of choice

Since your gaming of choice other than Cyberpunk is indie developer that won't put strain on your future build, any choice should be fine

Probably the only strong reason to choose NVIDIA RTX 4070 super (or TI) is if you really wanna go for Ray Tracing on Cyberpunk in gaming use case

Otherwise, there's not really good reason to choose NVIDIA, unless there's somewhat really good deal for such GPU (probably won't be happened, but there's no harm in keeping in faith)

I'm not sure my pc is gonna survive until then and not burst in flames but it's an info i didn't have so i think i'll wait.

I kinda dislike NVIDIA recently so i would rather give my money to not them. But yes Ray Tracing is nice and future games would be nice to play with it. So it's gonna be more a moral choice i think.

From what i can see there is a big gap in performances between an 7800XT and an 4070 super or TI (and not such a big price difference, is there an AMD equivalent to the nvidia that would be a really good alternative ?

7900 XT should beat them at rasterization. For RT, even the 7900 XTX can't keep up.

With your budget, the 7800x3d and a 7900xtx or 4070ti super is almost mandatory for 2k

1500 should see a 7900gre instead.

If you plan to get high end parts, those high end parts need juice, and you can get them now, so it would be best to upgrade PSU too. (for example in my list, it already can draw 500W+ Watts, which would drive 650W PSU near it's limit)

Not to mention budget, with savings after using things like your case, you can already get really good system for less than 1700€:

Yes i'm looking more in details now that i have a better idea of my options.
I can fit an 7800x3d and 7900xtx in my budget (i even found all white options for less than 15% more)

Gonna take as much time as my pc gives me before setting my choice

Wow, with PC on the lifeline, I wouldn't even dare to turn it on

Just wanna make sure though, is the root cause of your dying PC is because of failing CPU and/or motherboard, and not because of the PSU?
Or is it common to have power surge in your area? such as thunderstorm or voltage drop whenever someone is using high power electronic item?

Because that could affect your PSU as well. If there's no power surge, maybe it is time to do overhaul on your PC

Great, for Radeon, you could go for RX 7800 XT, 7900 GRE or a bit higher such as RX 7900 XT, mostly are priced linear to performance, so any choice will be worth the money.

The community has shared some suggestions on the build by having Ryzen 7800X3D, it is a good choice, and you might want to look up for that build

No worries about PSU i have no risk at that level, and have power surge protection outlets etc... (sorry don't know how to explain it well in english)
Fault is more caused by old components (PC runs nearly 24/7 since 2016), probably motherboard i'm unable to OC my CPU and RAM has locked itself at 1200Mhz. The bursting to flame was a joke.

Overpaying for the following:

CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE LINK H150i LCD 63.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($284.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650E AORUS ELITE X AX ICE ATX AM5 Motherboard  ($379.45 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Dominator Titanium 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory  ($172.99 @ Amazon)

I frankly don't understand the love of Corsair in this build.  The RAM is WAY overpriced, and should be 6000CL30.  Literally every Ryzen 7xxx setup goes with that for a reason.

That motherboard isn't worth $380, and you should spend half that.  And that cooler... wow.,  another 2x overpayment.

If you love Corsair, ignore me.  If someone told you to get their stuff, ignore them.

Oh i don't love corsair at all, i actually hate the fact of overpaying but i choose to go for Good and Pretty (so white/pink taxe Yaahhh) and the only components that match what i really want are the following ones

EDIT : I didn't double check, the MB would be only 220€ for me not 380 i don't know what PPP smoke there

For the RAM it was the same price to import a 6000mhz model vs buying an already imported 6400Mhz

I'm probably even gonna change the case by the end of day i'm still a bit hesitant on that (Antec C8 looks cool too). But Cooler wise and fan wise the corsair ones are the only ones i found that i can order where i live and that match my criteria 😞

Hi,

Thank you all very much for your help, so little update after the releases of the new CPUs and their benchmark. it's more than i planned initially but it's in what i imagined for a pretty build and i'm happy with the result. Gonna order everything today and should be able to build it in the next 2 weeks 😄

let's see what we can change, to keep it pretty,

oh, by the way, if you close picker, and open it, the region changes to US, if you want to try it's French price approximation,

oh I see, white color huh?

also, if for any reason or another any parts I recommend are more expensive, feel free to ignore that,

Notes:

  • Some AIOs from Corsair might be cheaper, you can check them out
  • There are also decent white AIOs from other brands if you're interested (they are cheaper)
  • I changed RAM to non RGB, because RGB RAM looks better with 4 sticks, the problem is you don't want 4 sticks on DDR5, so instead, white RAM to blend with the MB
  • Changed SSD to cheaper, slightly slower, but double the capacity, the SSD can be black, it will be hidden behind a heatsink or the GPU or both
  • Asrock GPU looked cheaper, it also has RGB which I don't know if it's changeable but could look decent even if other fans shine differently
  • I kept the case but I can give you 2 other brand suggestions white Phanteks XT Pro Ultra and white Phanteks XT View
  • I also swapped 3 fans with just 1, I don't know what your plan is with fan config
  • But there are already 3 fans in front side, the top part is where the AIO will go (or gets swapped with front where AIO can go), which only leaves one empty location which is effective when you put fan there, the back
  • You can put fans at the bottom for aesthetics, but they won't really bring much cooling value, maybe just negligible amount
  • Thermaltake is also good PSU, this model specifically, it's white and it's cheaper
  • One more note on the triple-fan you wanted to buy, the pcpartpicker actually warns you requirement of another 6-pin connector (for the 3 fans or their controller) which the Corsair RM850 or my PSU don't have
  • Check out the list there are few options inputed, the filter looks at these options and picks the cheapest one (for example there are 4 Corsair AIOs ranging in ~60-100+ € price more from the cheapest one

Took time to analyze in details, it's gonna cost me a few bucks more but i'm gonna go for 6000MHz RAM, there is no hard proof but there is a lot of people talking about instability at 6200+Mhz so i'm not gonna take the risk for a negligible amount

That motherboard isn't worth $380, and you should spend half that

Like said in previous post the cost was not updated, but it got me too look more in details on the diff between the 650E and 650 and i don't think i'll gain any advantage for PCIE Gen5 so i'll go for B650

Thanks 🙂

I was planning to go for 4 RAM stick in the future, planning an upgrade in 1 to 3 years, you're right that 2 RGB stick might look weird (i'm looking at other people build and some do look a bit weird with only 2) I'll see if i go for 4 directly. 'll depend on final cost.

Asrock GPU looked cheaper, it also has RGB which I don't know if it's changeable but could look decent even if other fans shine differently

I first was looking at this one, it's ARGB so would be way more integrated with the colors of the build but after some search there is a lot of negative comment from people having build quality problems and the RGB text on the side is less and less to my liking.
The PowerColor is gonna be a bit less integrated on the color (with white led) but i prefer the overall look and price is the same.

One more note on the triple-fan you wanted to buy, the pcpartpicker actually warns you requirement of another 6-pin connector (for the 3 fans or their controller) which the Corsair RM850 or my PSU don't have

The only real advantage to Corsairs iCUE fans is they can be daisy chained on the same controller so all would be powered with the same controller (and from everything i've been able to see 6 on one controller is fine) I'm also probably only use 2 of the 3 extra fans but the 3 pack is cheaper than 2 individual ones u_u

Overall i'm happy with the global build, could surely gain a bit here and there but it's ok.
I'm still a bit undecided about the case but i'll settle for one of theses :

- Corsair 3500X

- Lian Li O11 Vision (has the best glass panels option)

- Antex C8

Thank you all again for your advices. I'll post pictures when i'm done with the build.

I don't recommend getting 4 DDR5 sticks, the stability on those isn't guaranteed to hit 6000Mhz on 4 sticks

I don't get what's hideous about the RGB or why would the reviews be negative other than them getting bad GPU they would send back anyway?

I guess it does look better if the GPU is mounted vertically in the setup:

price wise,

you could save up to 100-200€ going with cheaper white AIO that still performs well, is quiet, white, and shines RGB:
