Helllooooo

So trouble accessing some files on my portable harddrive. A while ago i went to install a fresh windows copy on my machine so  back up any files i wanted to my portable hard drive (work files / photos / game clips).

So, there is a folder which has 2 sub folders within, one i can fully access/ copy etc... the other, nothing. Unsure how this happened or why as i have not messed with any security settings. Now since, looking at trouble shooting online i have messed with security settings to allow "everyone" access to the folder, but that never seems to work and the lock remains on each individual file.

So i have allowed "everyone" to access with full control, also been in the properties section under the advanced section with no luck, be awesome if anyone can lend a hand!

Thanks

Is it possible that when you backed up your files that you did not use the eject icon before unplugging your portable hard drive ? If Windows was not finished writing, some data may be missing.

As for permissions, there usually is an option so that all sub-folders and their contents inherit the same permissions you are setting.

As for recovering damaged files, you can try using some recovery software. It is not guaranteed to work, but it won't hurt to try. Most software have a trial or limited version for free.

Good luck.

It's been a while since I had to do a recovery. Check that list, there are a few names I used in the past.
