HP Slim 290 p00043w ; two SATA drives possible?

JohnSmith2

I have an HP Slimline 290 p0043w computer and I would like to use two 2.5 inch SATA drives in it. However, the included SATA power cable only has one full-length SATA power adapter on it, and another shorter one meant for powering the disc reader. There are two SATA data ports on the motherboard (one for a SATA drive, and one for the disc reader), so I think it should be possible to use two SATA drives in this machine if I can find a way to power the second one.

It looks as though something like this might do the job, but I am not completely sure:

https://www.amazon.com/YiKaiEn-Video-Power-Supply-8-6inch/dp/B0BQNB71NJ

This is the port on the motherboard the current SATA power cable is plugged into:

This is what the cable that came with the computer which plugs into that port looks like:

I'm not sure if the item in the Amazon link would be compatible with this motherboard. Notice how the angles look different on the Amazon listing:

Would that item work, or do I need something different? Or, is it not possible at all to power two SATA drives on this motherboard?

I am now realizing the other end on the Amazon item doesn't even match what I would need to plug into each drive. I think I would need to use this with my existing cable:

Ignoring my question above, would this item work?

It should run just fine. SATA Power is generally versatile when it comes to splitting like that, especially for drives.

As Unstable As LGA 1700

Assuming you have more SATA ports on the motherboard you should be good to go with this one. One SATA port is going to the disk reader and one is going to the existing drive, I would guess you have at least 2 more?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B
