Hard Drive noise

Does this noise mean anything to anyone? Drive's working fine. From what i was able to notice, this noise begins minutes after the drive goes idle. I already changed the setting to make sure the drive doesnt get turned off after X minutes. If i browse the files on the HDD, say, go through some images in there, the noise goes away. Then, once im done and closed it all up, it reappears after a few mins. Could be coincidence idk but thats what i was able to tell so far.

 

Id appreciate if anyone could shed some light in this. I dont know if it matters but the drive in question is a Seagate ST6000DM004.

On WD there is this tick every 5-6 sec for maintenance purpose (lubricant distribution). it goes away after a while.

It starts and end randomly in WD, so probably the same.

There's also Windows that tends to do background defrags after some idle time if necessary.

Don't think so.

Also if you have some monitoring software like HWInfo running in the background it might do regular "read smart" commands, at least at some point it did do it every 5 seconds by default and that would cause that kind of sound

Although none of us can say for certain what exactly it's doing, it's very likely some form of wear leveling, similar to the preemptive wear leveling on wd drives. This is both to re distribute media lube over the platters (yes that's a thing) and to prevent the heads from dwelling in one spot of the platters for too long (which can lead to a head crash).
