MacOS SMB compatibility issues.

koreanjohn

So I have this issue where when I try to write to a SMB share from my M1 Pro MacBook Pro, it crashes my network adaptors. I mean all network adapters on my Mac, usb Ethernet and WiFi, I can even plug it in after and no network will work. I have tried different NAS OSs, truenas, omv, and rockstor, and same problem every time. I have to restart my Mac every time, tried everything I have found on the internet and nothing works. Reading is fine, even deleting, it is writing that is the problem. The only thing I have not done is try to see if it replicates on another make because on windows it is fine. Any help is awesome, since afp is not even working anymore too.

Huh. We use TrueNAS Scale at work for 2 editor machines running macOS, no issues with SMB shares. The shares are just using TrueNAS Scale's own "Default share parameters" for an SMB share. You've got your ACL set up correctly so the user you're connecting from can read/write/execute? Could be crashing over that or something.

Yep have full permissions on the user setup for the Mac. I am on core not scale, don’t know how much of a difference that will make since it is happening with multiple nas oss.

I would verify the SMB version settings, all I can contribute.

Copying my drone footage from my m1 mba to my TrueNAS core as I am writing this. I am also on the latest version of macos. Sounds like very weird problem indeed. I gotta say, your problem sounds like its going to end up with reinstalling macos.

Ok made some progress, I deleted nsmb.conf and remade it with only [default], this fixed it crashing my network. So at least I don't have to restart my mac, but the issue now is it is hanging when writing even a 228kb file, no networking task work like internet or even accessing local servers.

Another update not losing network at all now, so just trying to find the right settings for nsmb.conf.
