Basically im doing some upgrades to my pc and im wanting to get a new motherboard and im wanting either asus or msi.

I have been using Gigabyte in my last 2 builds and even for my brother and i dont like there boards they are just terrible very unreliable, i only bought them because they were cheap and just needed something for a cheap build,

now im wanting to get parts for a build that will last me for a good few years and i believe msi and asus are the way to go.

But at the moment im stuck on which board to use and which companys board asus or msi?

Im going to be running a 4770k in there and overclocking it with a liquid cooler,

im needing a good power supply that can have dual 780 ti's, 2 ssd's, 2 harddrives and that will last a long time.

If you can give me a list of some good motherboards for my system that would be good, i use http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index to buy most of my products so if you find something good on there please link it.

Thanks

Both are good companies. I'd would say lean towards the one you believe has the features the other doesn't.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

I would go for a Z87 or Z97 board from ASUS depending on which colour scheme I liked more, most likely a workstation board like the Z97 PRO.

I think your Gigabyte experience may have been a one off, their products (especially motherboards) are generally excellent.

As far as I'm concerned the top3 motherboard manufacturers are ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI.

I was always a big gigabyte fan, loved all there work and thats why i gave them severall chances with different boards may have just been my choices of boards but i havent had a good board from them yet :/

I uses ASUS boards and have found them to be excellent, in your case for what you've stated you want to do (SLI, overclocking and a couple drives) I'd get myself the Z97-PRO motherboard from ASUS.

SLI support, great for overclocking, 6 native SATA3 ports, good quality and delicious ASUS BIOS GUI.

I currently run the ASUS Z77-VPRO which is the same tier board from Z77 chipset 1155 socket and I'm very happy with it indeed.

If you were only buying them only because they were cheap, that's probably related to why the boards were unreliable.

Motherboards are a lot like hard disk drives in that people have irrational hatred toward specific brands with which they've had one or two bad experiences. All brands have their good and bad products and, even among the good ones, there will be units that simply fail or don't perform to spec. ASUS, Gigabyte, ASRock, and MSI all have some outstanding offerings on the market. Overall, ASUS commands the most customer loyalty, but they're also the biggest motherboard manufacturer of the four and anyone considering supporting an underdog like MSI should be encouraged because we need that kind of competition.

Im sorry but that makes no sense? you buy cheap boards for cheap systems right? then why not make reliable boards that are not expensive why just spend all your time on the good boards and not even worry about the cheaper boards lol

I have had bad times with gigabyte so thats my opinion other people my love gigabyte but i believe they are terrible. i love the work msi and asus do, they always come out with the best products (from products i have used from them) so that is why i am choosing them other other products. i have never tried an asrock product before but from what i hear they are really good also, i may have to try them out sometime

for z87 \ z97 my choice is as follows

1-msi

2-gigabyte

3-asus

I really like the msi uefi. I think its easy and intuitive. setting things like adaptive voltage is a breeze.

In fairness I thought this but if you buy a product regardless of tier it should function correctly :)

asus make and support the low end boards best by a long way. if you're going for middle then i would go with msi because they will be better value and for top end boards then i would go with asus again.

Buying a board because it is cheap and buying a good board that happens to be cheap aren't exactly the same thing.

Both are very solid brands. I love MSI boards and getting one soon (Z97 Gaming 5) but go with whatever you like! Look price/performance/features and if it is a good price and has the features you want, go with it. I would recommend a Z97 board if you want to keep it a few years or so. But if you on a budget, i'd go with MSI (MSI Gaming 5 or 7 or above) but if you can pay for it, get the Asus Z97-Pro and up. The Z97-A isnt really worth it to me but go with whatever you want. I personally wouldnt spend below 150 usd for a gaming rig... but what features are you looking for? And your budget?

I Love Playing CS:GO!
