what cheap psu can i get taht wont explode?

this is the one in my list atm

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/8LNxFT/msi-mag-a-bn-650-w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-mag-a650bn (£49.99 UK)

pcpp says the list would only pull like 281w so maybe 650 is a bit overkill

any cheaper/less wattage alternatives that are still good?

The MSI MAG A650BN is actually a decent PSU for its price. The MSI MAG A550BN is sliighly cheaper if you wish to save 4 bucks.

This PSU has been recommended often by myself and others on the forum to people on a tight budget.

Its a safe purchase 🙂

you can get a better psu used

usually 50£ will get you a used rm850x or equivalent psu which will last you alot longer due to the high wattage so you wont have to replace it by the time you upgrade even if you go for higher end parts that draw tons of power

I recently got a A550BN, even ran my OCd 5800X / RTX3070 system with it to test. Its handled those just fine, even though GPU is shunt modded and pulls 400ws alone.

I always get brand new PSUs just for that reason. Especially big problem comes with the cables a used PSU comes with, you can never know what they are from unless you test them.

so would you say its worth the extra 5 quid ish for 100w more?

I would say so, it leaves a little more room for upgrades later if that is something you might want to do.

It comes with a 5 year warranty and should last longer so you will have it for quite a while 🙂

there's no overkill when it comes to PSU wattage or most importantly quality,

what exact parts are you getting/have

used psus have been used for awhile so im pretty sure any lemons would have died before then

warranty is pretty irrelevant <10 years cause they dont cover when the psu decides to up and die on you before the expected 10-15+ year psu lifespan

i have 3 used units one being a lowend dazumba 450w (or rather 360w cause 12v = 30a) and that thing is 13 yo now, bought it about 4 years ago cause i kept buying shitty oem gray box units that my p5q would annihilate the voltage regulations and had enough of that, retired around the time i got my first x58a ud3r as itd shut down when i was doing overclocks even if it was just a ram oc but its still around as a backup unit, the others are a dsa ii 550w (504w) and tundra 700w (648w) no issues with either of them, tundra 700w is now the psu i use for my testbench

also i think psu warranties on some manufacturers can be transferred as long as you still have the original proof of purchase/reciept

this is it atm but open to change bits

is this a full build? and what parts do you have? cause that board is stupid expensive for what it is, ill also just assume budget is 600£ as thats about where the list is priced at

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nYqnDZ

basically just doubled ram and 6700xt with a mix of new and used, dont even have to buy/find a used case if you really dont want to, also you can buy windows later so dont comprimise your hardware just to buy windows now

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/yT3DWt

heres going full send used which brings you up to a 3080 and upgrades the psu to the aformentioned rm850x or equivalent used albiet used midranger b3/450 board which are better than the new board i picked but need some effort due to checking for bios updates and making sure the thing works properly and also used case so youll have to go buy one or get one from someone throwing a case away, as for the 3080 they can usually be found at the 350£ mark but you should be able to haggle them down, also helps if you find a good deal cause then you can haggle that down

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/gWChHG

and heres all new aka poverty spec cause used scales best at lower budgets and this is a low budget build, it doesnt even have 32gb of ram like the other builds so thats a minus ontop of the worse gpu

lets just say you get your moneys worth even if you dont full send with used parts and prefer the convenience of new parts

keep in mind that used parts can be haggled price wise so you may be able to end up with lower prices

also feel free to mix the builds to your liking, i mean if you arent comfortable with used boards (understandable considering its the most error prone part of a build) and you want to go full send used parts then sure go ahead if you can stretch a little

yes it a full build

i have none of it atm

ik the board is expensive but i havent found good alternatives that have wifi and good reviews from ppls who know what they are on about

yeah im willing to spend like 600 but less would be lovely without reducing much performance (i.e. streaming and playing games like medium 1080p)

so what other boards would you recomend?

wifi is a must

matx

am4

4 ram slots ideally

minecraft

roblox

splitgate

forza maybe

streaming/recording all of those at 60fps

not too demanding ik

so what I'd recommend is WD Blue SN580 if it's cheaper and in stock, it's way better,

then you could swap to like weaker MB that's good, if you don't care about upgrade to above 5600,

then for GPU you could consider going the 6650 XT if u can afford, simply because it could handle streaming + playing games more stabily and get them on higher details settings more often,

corsair, seasonic, evga, deepcool PSUs tend to be good. Thermaltake is also fine if ur on a extreme budget but generaly I would recommend these 4.

ye that ssd is a bit cheaper

which mb should i swap to? i dont think i would upgrade cpu cos am4 wont have any big enough upgrades so 5600 works

wifi needed

mATX

about gpu's, is the arc a580 worth it? ive seen it is a lot cheaper than 6600 and in some ways outperforms it

a 6650xt would be nice but i dont want to be spending any more than 200 on a gpu

depends, Arc can be finicky in it's operation, could be completely good and could stutter/perform worse in certain games, really depends,

improves overtime but still they're Intel's first dedicated GPUs, so they're not granted to be always up to work with all games and programs,

you could get Arc, but I'd personally do my research on if the Arc doesn't stutter/underperform in games I wanted to play,

MSI B550M PRO-VDH as a Motherboard sounds good, it's got bios flash just in case the BIOS on it doesn't support 5600, but it hopefully should as a brand new unit,

the wifi version of that board is like the same price as the one i currently have in list

and how would i flash the mb if doesnt support 5600? how does that all work

as for a580, i would trust a 6600 to be more consistent cos amd but if the a580 goes on some mega deal then i might get it

u download on empty USB bios from MB's website,

put USB in the back port for flashing, press button and it goes, PC is on I think, should be explained in MB's manual,

probably not something you will have to do, high chance the MB already has bios that supports 5600,

your MB doesn't have flash button, but should probably work

check out benchmarks on A580 for games you wanna play, up to you, the cards are even, it's just about the brands here
