This is prob a well asked question, but Chrome currently uses 40% of my CPU when I have a TAB open on my second Monitor. When I also run a game sometimes this becomes a problem because my Main Monitor is a 1440p. Would Firefox have a lower CPU usage than Chrome? Google is giving me mixed reviews about this.

Why don't you just try it out? It's not like it costs you anything and you can just uninstall them again if you're not pleased with the result. No way of telling why Chrome is using so much of your CPU resources without knowing more about what you're doing in Chrome. Could be that you're using a heavily CPU bound web app or whatever.

Chrome shouldn't use more than 5% of your CPU, you're prolly have some viruses or something weird going

My Chrome uses like 7-13% with 2 extensions active and 3 youtube videos playing simultaneously.

My firefox uses like 2-7% with atleast 3 extensions (too lazy to check in detail), 3 LTT forum tabs, 3 youtube videos playing.

On a 5800H, 3060, and 32gb DDR5.

Laptop monitor 1440p, 2nd monitor 1440p

But yeah, that's a raw Chrome, meaning I haven't really done anything to try to optimize it, unlike the firefox.

As others said, you can just install and try.

Though as @duncannah & @PDifolco said, 40% CPU usage with only a tab open is weird, unless you are running a really high-resource thing on it.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

It's YouTube that uses like 30% randomly for nothing. Other tabs does not suffer CPU Usage. Only when YouTube is open

I tried again just now with my Chrome.

- 2 Extensions active, one is ublock origin, the other is extension to tweak youtube appearance

- 4 tabs, all playing youtube videos at 1440p 60fps quality

Peak is 38% CPU usage, most often it just fluctuate at around 25-33%

edit :

After turning on GPU acceleration in Chrome the CPU usage drops to 6-7%.

Those above were tried using default view player.

The only time I saw my Chrome CPU usage reached 40% was when I chose theater mode on all 4 tabs, with GPU acceleration off, and that's only for a brief of time. Mostly it's around high 30s

Soo.., yeah, i think something is wrong in your pc

I would try and see if there's something bad, whether extension or malware.

A chrome reinstall may also a good idea to try.
