What should I play next Zelda: BOTW or Elden Ring?

have heard a lot about the difficulty of Souls games, and I am in two minds over whether I should play Elden Ring.

Funny thing, ER is probably the most accessible one so far. Difficulty in souls games usually doesn't come in the form of reflexes or super memorization required, more in that they share a lot with puzzle games in some ways. ER is also rather unique in how many tools and features it gives to the player, including some very powerful accessibility and QoL features.

Main thing you will have to learn is: learning. The game doesn't hold your hand, or shows you stuff once (and doesn't care if you ignore that) and the lets you have a go at it...for the rest of the game. So more often than not you have to figure out what the best way to proceed is, where to go next,聽 etc.

To give an idea of what I like, I just finished God of War 2018 and really enjoyed it. My favorite game is Witcher 3, and I really enjoyed Control and Far Cry Primal. I have never played a Souls or Zelda game before. I have heard a lot about the difficulty of Souls games, and I am in two minds over whether I should play Elden Ring. I have never played a Nintendo game but have hear a lot about BOTW. Would love suggestions on good FPS games also, age of the game doesn't really matter. I am attaching the list of games I have finished along with my ratings for them. Thanks in advance for any help 馃檪

If you like metroidvania platformers like hollow knight, both the Ori games are a must. Also, I am currently playing Aeterna Noctis. very VERY good game.

Both the Jedi games are great if you liked the Tomb Raiders.

If you're a FarCry fan, give FC New Dawn a bash.

I don't see any puzzle games on your list. Supraland 1 + Crash DLC and Supraland 6 inches Under are 2 of my favourite games of all time.

Got plenty of more mv platformer suggestions if you want.

Never played Dark Souls but I just played about a weeks worth of Zelda BOTW and while I'm staggered at how the game fits on one of those Switch Carts and is quite an interesting game for the 1st 10 or 15hrs, it does get a little bland and stale after a while.

Also, the control schema is a unnecessarily complicated. In fact, I would say there are quite a few gameplay mechanics that really aren't needed and would have made the experience a whole lit better.

Its probably worth a bash and from a pure value perspective, worth the 50 bucks Nintendo tax but maybe not worth it from an enjoyability viewpoint. Symptoms of Grinditis started to show much sooner than expected!

If BOTW is under consideration then I'd throw in Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves for consideration too. Both are f2p gacha but at least for Genshin you really don't need to pay at all. Genshin was IMO unfairly called a BOTW copy when it came out, but having played both the differences are significant. Today it has a lot of open world exploration and nearly 4 years of story content so lots to do. Personally I'd take Genshin over BOTW. Wuthering Waves needs a mention as it was released days ago and some are hyping it as a Genshin killer. I'm playing it now, and I'd describe it as a Genshin copy. Reminds me a lot of the early Genshin days. It is closer to Genshin, than Genshin is to BOTW. As a new release it remains to be seen where it goes and there will be less content, but you would be experiencing it from the start if that matters.

I've never owned a Nintendo console, so I can't speak to the Zelda games, but I can say that Elden Ring is one of the best games ever released. You can easily expect over 100 hours on your first playthrough if you explore the world and don't just rush through the bosses. Not that you could, since the game is hard and all, and just doing the bosses is hard enough for seasoned Dark Souls players. If this is your first Souls-like game, it's probably closer to 200 hours.

Just a warning though: This game, and the other Souls games from FromSoftware, will shift your point reference. Many other RPGs will feel slow, clunky, unresponsive, or boring after you experience them.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I've got 300+ hours in Elden Ring, & 300+ between BotW & TotK.聽

They both have very subtle story lines, you need to piece together a lot & find ways to explore.聽

If you're in the mood for a happier looking game, I'd choose Zelda. If you like dark games, pick Elden Ring. They're both 10/10 imo, so can't really go wrong either way聽
