r/Ubuntu - ? HELP NEEDED ? black screen at full screen video playback

the default has the same issue.

this black out an lose of connection happens even with apps like celluloid at fullscreen

enabling freesync on the monitor half way fixs as playback is visible but with heavy artifacts an micro stutters.

It's experimental in all distributions shipping GNOME that have the option available.

I don't believe it's experimental in Plasma 6 however.  If you want to try that I believe the below distros all ship Plasma 6.

  • KDE Neon
    • Based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
    • Maintained by KDE Team
  • Fedora KDE
    • Limited Repos
    • Strips patent encumbered codecs
    • 6 Month Release Cycle
  • Fedora Kionite
    • Limited Repos
    • Strips patent encumbered codecs
    • 6 Month Release Cycle
    • Immutable Distro
  • OpenSUSE TumbleWeed
    • Limited Repos
    • Strips patent encumbered codecs
    • Rolling Release
  • EndeavourOS KDE
    • Rolling Release
    • Arch Based
      • May require periodic manual intervention
      • Is much more involved than other distros
