Seeking Help: FPS Issue Despite High-End Setup - Detailed Diagnosis Included

Fluffy411

Hey folks,

I'm hitting a wall with my Minecraft (only an example game that's not the purpose of my machine 🙂) FPS, struggling to break the 100 FPS mark even on max settings, despite having what I thought was a powerful setup. After digging into a thorough diagnosis, I suspected either the PSU or the Mainboard might be the culprit.

Here's the nitty-gritty of my diagnosis:

  • PSU Suspicions: Initially, I leaned towards the PSU as a potential issue, primarily due to noticing fluctuations in the 12V rails while scrutinizing the HWINFO logs. However, even after swapping out the PSU with a new one, the problem persists.

  • Mainboard Examination: Another area that raised red flags was the Mainboard, particularly because the VRMs were hitting the Tmax limit, as evident in the HWINFO logs. Consequently, I've ordered a replacement Mainboard, which is expected to arrive today.

Here are my system specs:

  • Case: MSI MPG SEKIRA 100R
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
  • CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240
  • Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WiFi (including Wi-Fi + Bluetooth)
  • RAM: 64GB (4x16GB) GSkill DDR4 3600MHz Trident Z NEO
  • GPU: MSI RTX 4070 Ti 12GB
  • PSU: 850W be quiet! Straight Power 11 Platinum

Awaiting the arrival of the Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 Mainboard today.

If the new Mainboard doesn't resolve the issue, I'm running out of ideas on where to turn next. I've attached an HWINFO log captured during a benchmark for reference.

Would greatly appreciate any insights or suggestions!

How many chunks are trying to render?

Give some more examples with temps for both cpu and gpu along with the amountof usage.

Did you use DDU to uninstall the older drivers, then install new drivers from Nvidia?

If the VRMs are getting too hot, make sure you have good air flow in the case.

When problems are non-explanatory, usually I call them a PSU issue. Your experience might be different. Try to underclock your CPU and see if that helps (maybe lower the load on the PSU).

Try using fabric w/ sodium and see if that helps? Vanilla minecraft optimization is pretty 💩. Also if you know how, you have to allocate more ram to minecraft in the launcher, by default i believe no matter what it sets it to 4gb. So 15+chunks are going to make it lag, even if your system isn't being stressed.

I edit my messages more than not –

Probably some dude on the internet

Minecraft was only an example. Like in Battlefield V I get around 100 FPS good times and that's it. I am also not even playing on 2k or 4k, its only 1920x1080 with 144HZ monitor. I have a friend with almost the same setup, and he has 0 problems playing on the newest Samsung Odyssey G9 https://amzn.eu/d/3FWewnm.
