GPU problems

noidea213

Hi, i have had a GTX 1070 for 4 years now, but when i got it it seemed like my pc couldn't run games that it should be able to, when i wanted to run a newer game like RDR2 or Death Stranding the game started but crashed in a few minutes, then after a while  couldn't even start the game, it instantly crashed, first i was thinking that it was a CPU problem (i have a i3 10th gen) so for years i just moved on, and didn't play games that i wanted to. A few months ago i got angry, (because a 1070 is an expensive GPU) and i started to troubleshoot yet again, i downloaded a game that i couldn't run before, and watched the task manager, and i realised that before crashing the GPU percentage went up to 100% and than crashed. Somehow i had the idea to underclock my GPU by 100, and IT WORKED, i can run ANY game now, but i would like to know why that is, if anyone knows what could be the problem tell me pls, and if you have a similar problem download MSI afterburner and try underclocking your GPU.

maybe your psu is struggling with voltage, since 'underclocking' with msi afterburner is essentially the same as 'undervolting'. I did it too and I gained about 100 fps in rocket league with a 3060 12gb (250 to 350) while using the same power

How old is your psu and what model is it?

Message me on discord (bread8669) for more help

1070 is pretty old, I suspect thermal issues, did you check temps and clean/repaste it ?

100% usage is expected in gaming (unless CPU bound)

It means the GPU was not getting enough power at the original boost frequency, but has sufficient power to run 100Mhz lower
