What ram is compatible with this 10+ year old laptop

Go to solution Solved by porina,

I didn't think it would but still worth a look. That means you can buy pretty much any standard ram and it'll work. I still recommend seeking out 2R modules as they can perform better than 1R ones where all else is equal.

Laptop BIOS do tend to be very limited/basic compared to desktop enthusiast mobos with overclocking options. You don't get more fancy options unless you have one of the rare "overclocking" enabled laptop CPUs.

Edit: if you can't find 2R ram, or not at a good price, don't worry about it. See it as a "nice to have" and not a necessity.

I got this "gaming" laptop like 10 years ago, and only use it for hosting Minecraft servers. Found out it has ddr4 8gb (2x) ram that costs $10 on amazon, so that's nice. So what are good ddr4 16gb (2x) ram that I could install that is obviously compatible.

This is the laptop as well.

Any help is appreciated

Go into the bios and see if it supports XMP. If not, you'll be limited to JEDEC 2133 speeds. In that case, pretty much any JEDEC standard ram (anything without XMP) should work. You can buy higher speeds as they'll also work at the lower speeds fine.

I'd suggest Kingston if they sell directly in your region. You can select 16GB modules that are 2R, which generally perform better than 1R ones.

Other companies like Crucial don't break out 2R options, more likely will be 1R.

Bios vendor is American Megatrends, Version is 304. Not sure if it needs an updated bios or not, cant even find XMP in it, or on google for an update

Edit: Its Aptio Setup Utility, from 2019, this motherboard gotta be for a server, its got Sata configuration, network stack configuration, and some random stuff for intel

Most consumer BIOSes I have seen have these settings.

That's the latest version, this laptop likely just doesn't support XMP.

English is not my first language, so please excuse any confusion or misunderstandings on my end.
